Practical Guidelines PDF Print E-mail

practicalguidelines0003

At Calvary Chapel Bible College it is our desire that all would draw closer to Jesus and grow daily in His grace.  Therefore we have wise and biblical common-sense guidelines to keep in mind.

Upon arrival, during orientation, the Dean of Students will cover the them.  If you have questions, please contact us.

Obeying guidelines will not make you more holy. On the contrary, obedience to Christ is evidence of a mature walk with the Lord. In a small community of believers like at this Campus, we need to be flexible and to do things decently and in order so that the Peace of God might rule. The Pastoral Staff has prayed and found these as answers to encourage a godly atmosphere on this Campus and allow for an environment of learning to take place. These guidelines are in effect, not because we believe you will be more righteous if you do or don't do these things, but so that we don't stumble others or draw undue attention to fleshly appearances. We want to draw people's attention to the beauty of Christ and His love and not hinder our witness to those who may not understand certain liberties. The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:19 "For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more."

Jesus is the Head of this Campus and He is building His Church - let's hold fast to Him, and look to Him with great expectation in what He might do with us while studying here at CCBC for a season of our life!

Wisdom When Christians Differ:

1) Distinguish between biblical commands and matters of freedom (Read Romans 14:14,20).

  • We will study a course in Hermeneutics.  As you do you will learn to look for the difference between PRESCRIPTIVE and DESCRIPTIVE passages - many folks get these confused.

2) On debatable issues, cultivate your own convictions (Romans 14:5)

  • On Debatable issue both people can be "right" based on personal conviction.
  • For example, if you are a parent and decide that your son cannot see R rated movies in the home, the parent is right to not allow it.  If the son doesn't like it, and has a con

viction that it is "ok", he can move out of the home and follow his own convictions.

  • This also applies here at CCBC.  Some of our guidelines are convictions.
  • Students are welcome to appeal the guideline for clarity and refinement.  We always welcome student input.
  • If a student does not agree with decision about the specific guideline, he is free to move off campus (or choose another college).

3) Allow your brother the freedom to determine his own convictions, even when you differ (Romans 14:1-12)

Some essential definitions in Romans 14:

Weaker Brother - a Christian who, because of the weakness of his faith, knowledge, conscience, and will, can be influenced to sin against his conscience by the example of a differing stronger brother.

Stronger Brother
- a Christian who, because of his understanding of Christian freedom and the strength of his conviction, exercises his liberty in good conscience without being improperly influenced by the differing opinions of others.

Stumbling Block - an action taken by a stronger brother that, though it would ordinarily qualify as a permissible act of freedom, influences a weaker brother to sin against his conscience

.

Also read 1 Corinthians Chapters 8 - 10.

Behavior That Will Result in Immediate Dismissal from CCBC:

The following things are not permitted by students while attending CCBC Colorado, and are reasons for immediate dismissal:

•Sexual immorality.

•Drinking (getting drunk) or drugs (intoxication) on or off campus.

• Rebellious attitude  in word (i.e foul language) or deed (i.e violence) toward one another or the staff.

• Failure to submit to the College staff and/or guidelines in a flagrant or chronic manner.

• Aberrant doctrine being spread to others (as determined by the Pastoral staff)

• The staff reserves the right to dismiss a student immediately for any other action (in word or deed) which might bring reproach to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the reputation of the Bible College or it's leaders, or for any other unbiblical behavior.
