Up Coming Events:

Fall 2010 Semester (click here for Calendar)

Classes have Begun!

What To Expect PDF Print E-mail
Books and School Supplies:

We suggest the standard Bible study books such as the Believer's Bible Commentary (or a similar one-volume commentary), a concordance, a Bible dictionary, a Bible word study resource such as Vine's to look up Greek and Hebrew words, a Bible atlas, and a Bible handbook such as Hally's. In addition, we recommend E-Sword or Blueletter Bible that can be downloaded to your hard-drive on your computer. Your "Textbook Fee" will provide the required reading for each semester.  We will order them prior to the beginning of the semester. Therefore, it is important to pay your fees on time. You are welcome to purchase additional books and resources after you arrive.

Computer:

Bringing your own laptop is highly recommended. Actually, in a place like this you will need one. A laptop is especially helpful for Bible Software, typing your research papers and homework assignments. All assignments must be typed (you're in College, by the way). We do have a shared "Student Computer" with a printer.  This computer is used for student Internet and for writing papers.  There is Bible software installed for research, too.  However, it will require patience and scheduling to learn how to share!

Internet:

Student e-mail and Facebook is available during certain hours on the "Student Computer" in the communication center where the Pay Phone is.  The facility uses the Hughes Net Satellite Internet Service Provider.  This service, because of the remote location, is all that is available, and it is as slow as dial-up!  However, many students use the library or coffee shops in town for a more "robust" Internet experience :-)

Also, as a friendly reminder concerning technology:  This remote location is an ideal place and time to get away and seek the Lord - many times ipods, PSPs, cell phones, Internet surfing and whatever other gadgets you may have distract us; we go mindless, speechless, and careless when we're on them. So, it would be wise to expect to "fast" from time to time from technology while you're here in Colorado. You'll be back in the city every weekend and soon enough you will be back home where you can download all the content you want. Redeem this time - for God's glory.

Phone Card:

Cell phone service is unavailable in this blessed and remote location! Because of this, students must have a phone card in order to make any kind of calls. Some of you may have never used a phone card - but they are inexpensive and easy to use. Coins will help but the payphone eats them up - a phone card is the way to go. Now, we're in town every weekend (and some evenings) that's the time to call and text message your friends and family, too!

Clothing:

Bring appropriate clothing. We do have all four seasons here. The Fall Semester will see the reason Colorado is called "Colorful Colorado". We are in one of the most spectacular locations to see the fall colors. In fact, we are within minutes from the largest Aspen Tree Grove on the entire planet. When you see it you cannot help but to declare, "God exists and He is great!" Well, the leaves turn color because the temperature gets cooler and finally it gets downright cold (by December). It can rain during any season; we have thundershowers in the summer and fall, yet we typically have what's called an "Indian Summer" that lasts through October. It heats up for a week and the gets cold for a day or two and heats up again. So, plan accordingly. In the winter (November through March) it gets cold. Bring layers: t-shirts, sweaters/sweatshirts, vests, and definitely a warm coat. Bring a vest or light jacket to wear to classes. Think snow: hats, gloves, & boots. You may want to bring nice clothes (at least one set) for any special occasion that might occur (i.e. graduation). Your chores may require some work that would get your clothes dirty or stained, so bring some clothes you could work in. Finally, be prepared for the great outdoors! We may have the opportunity for camping, hiking, snow-boarding, snow shoeing, and other outdoor activities.

Camping/Hiking:

During the Fall Semester we will do some outdoor activities and classes.  Therefore, you will need a good pair of hiking boots and a fully equipped backpack.  A top-quality, warm sleeping bag rated at 20 degrees or better with a sleeping pad is required.  If you want to be a "pro" take a look at this checklist! It is vital that you come prepared.  Your safety and comfort will be compromised if you are lacking the proper gear.

Bedding/Toiletries:
You will need to bring your own bedding (sleeping bag OR sheets, pillows, and blankets), towels, wash clothes and other toiletries. If you do not have room, you will be able to purchase items at on arrival. Remember: you will have limited space to use in the dorms, so do not over pack! Many items can be purchased when we take trips into town (Walmart, etc.). Upon arrival, you will be able to buy basic personal items like shampoo, soap, snacks, and school supplies. The nearest affordable store for those sort of purchases (Walmart) is an hour away. There are grocery and drug stores (and a gas station) closer; however their prices are a bit higher.

Laundry:

Students will do their laundry at the in town on a weekly basis.  Students use this time to surf the Internet, witness to the community, and catch up on reading while their clothes are being washed.  The laundry mat also provides a "drop off" service for a fee.  Just drop off a bag of clothes and spend time in town - come back and they "fluff and fold" them for you!

Medical Care and Insurance:

Insurance is required while attending CCBC Colorado. Search on-line before you arrive and secure a policy.  Try www.missionaryinsurance.com You can also search on line for short-term student health insurance.  Or, bring your insurance card from your parent's policy. We will check policies and information on registration day. We do not provide insurance coverage, so you will need to take care of that before coming out.

Transportation:

Weekly trips to town will be made on Sundays for church. If you need anything, that will be your time to purchase it. Other trips into town will be made throughout the semester, but will be on a "play it by ear" basis. Please note that a round trip to the Airport is a 4-5 hour drive.  You will be required to pay for this trip, so plan accordingly.

Chores:

Our Campus operates like a large family.  Each member does it's share to do daily chores.  For example, we will wash our own dishes after each meal.  Each student will be assigned an area to be responsible for. Including, but not limited to, cleaning the bathrooms, cleaning your room, emptying and washing the trash cans, straightening the chairs, picking up the clutter and trash on the grounds, sweeping and mopping, shoveling snow in the winter, chopping wood for the fireplace, etc.  These chores are accomplished on a daily basis (and are not part of your M199 assignment).

Classes:

Being a small campus brings the blessing of getting to know each other and building friendships that will last a lifetime. Also, because we have about a dozen students we will all have the same class schedule. All students are expected to participate in this corporate schedule.

Our schedule will consist of both block classes and weekly classes. Right now, classes are dependent on teacher's schedules. Therefore, we may need to "watch, wait, and pray" as our class schedule unfolds each semester. Remember, this is a "pioneering" work. We are seeing the Lord work step-by-step each semester - so be prepared to be adaptable on a moment's notice!

Expect to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Each class is a Bible study. Expect the classes to speak to your heart. You will leave here with a new understanding and new relationship with the Lord. It is our pray that you will know Jesus more intimately at the end of each than when you woke up in the morning.

Expect approximately one hour of class time per credit per week and two hours of homework per class per week (varies widely). Each class session is between 2 and 3 hours long. Classes are taught live by Calvary Chapel Senior Pastors, primarily.  We have the best-of-the-best classes available on DVD for any special requires for graduating students.
